How to Get from Unawatuna to Other Destinations
This small Sri Lanka resort town, 150km away from the capital, offers a new world with its stretching white beaches facing the Indian Ocean as well as the palm trees and jungle you can find if you can turn your back to the crystalline waters. Unawatuna is also of vital importance regarding ecosystem with its world-famous coral reefs and sea turtle hatchery at fantastic Habaraduwa beach. Alternatively, you can enjoy the lagoon in Negombo. To enjoy waterfalls and tea plantations surrounded by cloudy forests, head to inland Ella or make sure to visit Kandy, a destination for Buddhist Pilgrimages, to have a spiritual journey. If you feel like discovering new beaches head to Mirissa beach 1 hour away. See below for your options to travel from Unawatuna to other destination.
Taxi from Unawatuna
Bandaranaike International Airport is the closest one to Unawatuna and although tuk-tuks are favored over taxis, for longer trips it is not possible. To Bandaranaike International, the taxi costs around 10000 LKR (€55), it takes a little more than two hours. To Colombo city center, it costs 9500 LKR. To Ella, it costs 13000 LKR.
Public Transport from Unawatuna
As much as public transport is the cheapest option in the area, a lot of places are unreachable by buses. From Galle train station to the capital there is a bus route which follows the coast and one-way ticket costs 420 LKR. You can get off at other stops such as Hikkaduwa. The buses are air-conditioned but there is no price regulation and there have been examples of extra fees for luggage. There are also private train companies. From Unawatuna to Colombo you can take the train for 340 LKR with a first class ticket. To Hikkaduwa, it costs 80 LKR. Despite the very scenic journey, there are only three connections a day.
Private Transfer from Unawatuna
Despite the low-cost offers of public transport or even the taxi here, both have their disadvantages. How do I book a transfer in Unawatuna?
