How to Get from Tbilisi Airport to City Center and Other Destinations

Shota Rustaveli Airport is the main international air hub in Georgia, located 17 km southeast of Tbilisi city center. The airport serves more than 3 million passengers a year. To get from here to the city, tourists use public transport, a taxi, or a transfer. Besides, they often go from here to some other Georgian locations such as Batumi, Gudauri, Kutaisi, Stepantsminda, and Borjomi.

You can book a car here by phone, via an app, or find one right at the exit from the building. On average, a taxi from Tbilisi Airport to the city center costs around 8.3 euros at daytime and 9.9 euros at night, and such a trip takes about 20-30 minutes. Be careful: local drivers, often deceive inexperienced travelers and tell them the price two to four times higher but it is appropriate to bargain. Another option is to download a taxi app to your device and make an order using free Wi-Fi at the air hub.

Transfer from Tbilisi Airport

Public transport from Tbilisi Airport

To get from the air hub to the city, you can take the bus №37. Its stop is at the exit from the airport building and is marked with a large yellow BUS sign on the ground. This bus will take you to the city railway station in about 50 minutes and for around 1.7 euros. A ticket is bought on the bus, but ticket machines accept only Georgian coins, so you need to exchange money first. Another option to reach the capital is by train. It runs from the air hub to the city center twice a day. The trip takes 20 minutes and costs around 1.7 euros.

The air hub was built in 1952 and was formerly known as Novo Alexeyevka Airport. It has been recently reconstructed and now has a modern and functional design. In the territory of it, one can find waiting zones, shops, cafes and restaurants, information centers, exchange offices, a nursing room, and WC. Also, there are car rental services here. Passport control is fast, and there are usually no queues.
