Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
Schiphol is the most important air hub of Europe, together with London Heathrow in Great Britain, Frankfurt International air hub in Germany, and Paris Charles de Gaulle in France. This is as well the main air hub of the Netherlands, which receives more than 58 million passengers annually. Nearby are the cruise port of Amsterdam (Haarlemmerbuurt), the Hague, Rotterdam, and Vinkeveen.
How to get from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam city center or the other way round
The air hub is located 17 km away from the city. Here is the main information about the ways to get to the city:
- trains run from 05:30 to 01:00 every 15 minutes (the rest of time — once an hour). By train, you can get to the city center (Central train station) in 15-17 minutes. Tickets can be bought in yellow NS ticket machines, at NS Dutch Railways counters at Schiphol Plaza or on the official site. The departure train station is located right before the airport (follow the Schiphol Railway Station signs);
- shuttle buses run from 06:00 to 21:30 (waiting time — up to 30 minutes). The Schiphol Hotel Shuttle, an 8 pax minibus, connects the airport with the majority of the city hotels. Tickets can be bought on the carrier’s site or at the air hub. The stop is located on the A7 platform, opposite the arrivals terminal exit;
- buses №197 (Amsterdam Airport Express) run to the Museum Quarter and Leidseplein Square from 05:00 to 00:30 with an interval of 15 minutes. At night, buses N97 run on the same route from с 01:27 to 4:27 every hour. The stops you need to get off are B9/B11 and B8/B13, and they are located to the right of the terminal central exit (opposite Schiphol Plaza). Tickets can be bought from the driver or at the Holland Tourist Information counter at the airport;
- taxi can be taken on the spot or booked via the app;
- transfer can be booked online in advance.
Public transport goes at night not very often, so after 01:00, the most convenient way to get to the city will be a taxi or a transfer.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (taken on the spot or ordered via the app)
Advantages of a private transfer
No need to wait. If you take a taxi on the spot or via the app, you will have to wait for the car. Are you in hurry or afraid of being late for your flight? Use our service: it will come at the specified time.
A private driver at the price of a local taxi. A taxi trip from the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to the city center will cost approximately 40–50 euro. The Kiwitaxi car of a micro class for three people costs 43 euro.
No need to overpay for a short trip. Some taxi drivers in Amsterdam try to charge passengers the amount, which exceeds the real trip cost tenfold.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Much more expensive than Uber. The fare of an UberX trip from the airport to the city center starts from 25–30 euro.
Transfer from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport vs. Shuttle Bus
Advantages of a private transfer
Cheaper if you travel in a group of 3–4 people. One shuttle bus ticket costs 17 euro, so a trip for 4 people will cost 48 euro. A 4-seater car of an economy class can be booked for 45.
Travel to your destination, not your travel companions. If your hotel is one of the last on the route, you will have to wait until the shuttle bus drops other passengers off.
Almost 4 times faster. You will waste up to half an hour waiting for your travel companions, and around 1 hour more on traveling to the hotel. You can get by transfer from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam city center in 25 minutes.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
More expensive if you travel alone or in a pair because a private car service costs minimum 43 euro.
Transfer from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport vs Bus and Train
Advantages of a private transfer
Faster than by bus. A trip by bus from Schiphol to the city will take around 45 minutes including waiting time. Our car service will take you there 20 minutes faster.
No changes. Buses and trains run only to the city center. In order to get to the hotel, you need to change to public transport. Alternatively, you can travel by transfer from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport directly to your hotel in the city.
As expensive if you travel in a group of four. A trip by train or bus from the air hub to the hotel (including one change in the city) will cost around 8 euro. If you are traveling in a group of 4 people, it will approximately cost 32 euro. Our service for 4 people will cost 45 euro, which is only 3,3 euro more expensive for each passenger.
You can travel even during the railroad works, and if you haven't learned about these works in advance, you will have to search for another way to get to the city.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
More expensive, if you travel alone or in a pair. By bus, you can get from the airport to Amsterdam for 5 euro, by train — for 5,2 euro (4,20 euro — - if you buy a transport card). A ticket on public transport can be bought for 2,9 euro (valid for 1 hour).
You can get stuck in a traffic jam, which will definitely not happen in case of a train.
