Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Munich Airport
Munich International Airport named after Franz Josef Strauss is located in Upper Bavaria. Each of two terminals receives around 25 million passengers a year. They are mostly tourists, who arrive to see Bavarian capital or visit ski resorts of Germany or Austria: Kitzbühel, Mayrhofen, Ischgl, Salzburg resorts and others.
How to get from Munich Airport to Munich city center or the other way round
The way to the city is not short. One can overcome 30 km distance by:
- S-Bahn train (lines S1 and S8). Tickets are sold before the staircase leading to the train platform. Look for DB counter or red ticket machine. Follow red DB signs or green S-Bahn signs, to find your train;
- Lufthansa Shuttle Bus. There are bus stops at Т2, Т1 (gates A and D), as well as in Munich Airport Center (MAC). Tickets can be bought online, at the counter or from a driver (0,5 euro more expensive);
- taxi, which can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app;
- transfer, booked online, which can take you from Munich Airport both to the city and the neighboring ski resorts.
It is possible to get to the central train station Hauptbahnhof by bus or city train at any time (except the time gap between 1 am and 4 am).
Transfer vs. Taxi from Munich Airport to the city center ordered via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
Set off as soon as arrive. It is difficult to foresee how much time the taxi ordering at the airport counter might take: taxis are provided in order of priority. And other hundreds of passengers may also get the idea of ordering a taxi via the app.
Pay for a trip, not for mileage or time of a day. Taxi service from the Munich Airport to the city will cost you approx. 57–75 euro, depending on the remoteness of your hotel. Transfer cost is fixed both to the center and for the suburb, and there is no surcharge for baggage or night time.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
More expensive. The price for a private transfer from Munich Airport to a hotel starts from 76 euro, whereas prices for local Uber start from 57 euro.
Transfer from Munich Airport vs. City train (S-bahn)
Advantages of a private transfer
Your carriage will not be uncoupled. Be careful, when you travel from the city to the air hub. Many tourists warn that first carriage in trains running on S1 line often gets uncoupled and goes along another route.
You will have space for your baggage. In S-trains which run from the air hub to the city, a separate baggage compartment is not provided. You will have to travel with your bags on your knees for at least 50 minutes. In case of our service, nothing is out of place: suitcases are in trunk, and people — in a car.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Minimum 30 euro more expensive. The price for a train starts from 10,8 euro for one person (there are group and children discounts), whereas a our service for four passengers costs 76 euro.
Transfer from Munich Airport to the city center vs. Buses
Advantages of a private transfer
Do not ask for directions. Lufthansa Shuttle Bus goes to the Central train station of Munich. So, you will have to use a map or ask strangers to get from the train station to your hotel. Kiwitaxi driver will meet you at the airport and drive you to the hotel door.
Arrive first. Rushing to be the first to see all the city sights? While everybody is waiting for a bus, you will manage to cover more than a third of the way from the airport to Munich with our service.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Much more expensive. An adult bus ticket will cost you 10,5 euro and a child one (6-14 y.o.) — 5,5 euro, our service will cost minimum 76 euro.
