Heathrow Airport: Transfers and Taxi
Transfers from Heathrow Airport
Transfers from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) are the most convenient and hassle-free way to reach the United Kingdom’s capital city, as well as most visited cities in England: Oxford, Cambridge, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester, etc. Also, they can take you to other London air hubs and the famous Legoland theme park.
The major advantages of this transport option include:
No need to look for its pick-up point and then wait for it. When you arrive, your driver will already be waiting for you in the designated meeting place inside the terminal building holding a plate with your name on it. Besides, he will help you carry your suitcases to the car.
No need to buy British pounds. You can make a prepayment for your ride in a more suitable currency for you.
A wide range of car classes. From sedan cars to large minibusses — you will find the vehicle that suits all your travel needs.
You can book one or more booster or child car seats when traveling with small children.
The distance between the air hub and London is 32 km. Travel to your hotel in the city by transfer will take you around an hour. The ride cost is 64€.
Taxi from Heathrow Airport
There is a taxi rank at each Heathrow Airport terminal — just leave the Arrivals and you will see lines of famous black cabs waiting in front of the building. Those cabs are a bit larger than normal ones — they can carry up to five persons and four suitcases. Also, they use taximeters. Another way to take a taxi at the air hub is via one of the desks in the Arrivals — there, you can book a journey at a fixed price. You can also call one of the local taxi companies — in this case, be ready to pay an additional charge for your call.
Getting to the city by taxi will cost you 60-80 GBP or 67-90€. Also, if you are satisfied with your trip, it’s polite to tip the driver — 10-15% of the ride cost.
Note that the largest cabs at the stand can only carry 5 passengers, while the largest taxis offered at the desks — usually only 8 passengers. If you’re a larger group, a private transfer will be a better option for you: with Kiwitaxi, you can book a large minibus in advance and thus avoid taking two taxis on-site.
Public Transport from Heathrow Airport
There are a few means of public transportation connecting the air hub to London:
Trains. Express ones will take you to Paddington Station in 15-27 mins, while TFL Rail ones — in 32-45 mins. The fare is 11-25 GBP. Train stations can be found at all terminals. These services run every 15-30 mins. At night hours, they’re not available.
Underground (the tube). It reaches downtown in 45-60 mins. A single adult ticket costs 6 GBP. This option operates from all terminals, as well. At night, it doesn’t run.
Buses. National Express services will take you to Victoria Coach Station in 50-80 mins. The trip cost is 6-10 GBP. Buses leave from Central Bus Station located between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, and then stop at Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. They run every 30 mins to 2 hours. At nighttime, you can use the route N9, which goes to Trafalgar Square (1 hour; 1.5 GBP).
Buses and trains can also take you to other London airports, as well as other nearby cities and towns (Oxford, Guildford, Reading, Woking, etc).
Public transport can get extremely packed at peak times.
Booking a Private Transfer from Heathrow Airport
You need to make your reservation at least 24 hours before travel. But even if you make it later, we will do our best to find an available car for you.
To make a booking, you need to choose the route and preferred vehicle class and specify the date and time of your journey. For more comfortable travel, you can add some extra services to your booking (for instance, an extra stop along the route or a bottle of drinking water).
Also, you can prepay for your travel with your debit or credit card. Once you’ve made a payment, you will get an email confirming your reservation.
