Why do tourists book private transfers in Budapest?

Why do people book transfers in Budapest

Transfer is a transportation service which meets and brings you exactly where you asked: a Kiwitaxi driver meets you at the airport (as close to the Arrivals as possible), at the hotel reception or at the exactly given address, helps you with your luggage and brings you fast- track to your destination.

You can pre-order inexpensive taxi transfer to the city center or to the airport, comfortable car transfer for the family with children, Economy minivan for a tourist group or a Luxury transfer. The transfer cost in Budapest is fixed at the time of pre-order and never rises : either when the driver is waiting for the passenger, when the stop is necessary, or because of traffic jams.

Customer feedback

Superorganized in every detail. ....The information before, upgrading the car without extra charge in advance, the fast and nice service at the pick up place and the reasonable price!
Ten out of ten. Both drivers were on time and professional. Would definitely use Kiwi taxis again. Communication was also good Keeping us informed of driver contact details
The driver was waiting for us at the exit, even with the plane arriving late. He was very polite, drove well, we could understand each other perfectly in english (even that it was not our first language). Everything went well and I definetly recommend the service.

Transfers vs. Public Transport and Taxi in Budapest

Budapest is a capital and the biggest city of Hungary. Here is the largest international airport in the country named after Ferenc Liszt (Ferihegy). From there one can get to Bratislava and Vienna by car in 2–3,5 hours.

We will tell you, how to get to Budapest from the airport or the other way round: how to get to the airport from the city.

How to Get from Budapest City Center to Budapest Airport, Train Station, or Nearest Towns

Tourists have five transport options:

  • bus. Bus N200ЕС departs to the airport from the stop near Köbánya-Kispest metro station;
  • shuttle bus. By miniBUD shuttle bus one can get to the airport too. Its capacity is 8–10 people, and tickets should be bought in advance. There are shuttle buses to Vienna from Orangeways company;
  • train. Trains depart from the west train station (Nyugati) to Ferihegy, from which you can get to Terminal 2 by bus № 200Е. It is convenient to get to the station on the subway;
  • taxi. Taxi service in Budapest can be ordered by phone or via the app;
  • transfer. It should be booked online in advance.

There are three train stations in the capital: Keleti, Nyugati and Deli. Trains set off regularly from each of them to other cities of Hungary and neighbouring countries. For example, you can travel from Keleti to Bratislava and Vienna. There are also international buses. They depart from the bus station Népliget.

Transfer vs. Taxi in Budapest, ordered by phone or via the app

Advantages of a private transfer

Choose a suitable car and order a child seat. Uber is forbidden in Hungary, so many people switched to local apps Főtaxi and Taxify. However, they turned out to be inconvenient: for example, in Taxify it is not possible to choose a car class and order a child seat.

Fixed price. Apps show the approximate price of a trip, but it doesn’t always match up with reality. Besides, all services have surcharges, for example for an idle time in a traffic jam. You learn a transfer cost in advance when booking, and it does not change.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

A bit more expensive. You can get by taxi from Budapest to the airport for 6 500–9 650 forint (21–31 euro), and economy class transfer service for a group of 4 costs 32 euro.

Transfer in Budapest vs. Bus and Shuttle bus

Advantages of a private transfer

Several times faster. A bus trip to the airport, with waiting time and changes, will take a bit more than 1 hour, to Bratislava — around 5,5 hours, to Vienna — approx. 8 hours. In case of our service, you can get to the same destinations in 35 minutes, 2 hours 20 minutes and 3,5 hours respectively.

Cheaper than shuttle bus, if there are more than 3 passengers. For example, one miniBUD shuttle ticket to the airport costs 4 400 forints (14,2 euro). On the contrary, an economy class transfer for 4 people will cost you 32 euro, and a minibus from Budapest for 7 people — 49 euro.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

Several times more expensive. A bus ticket to the Ferenc Liszt air hub costs 700 forints (2,3 euro), to Bratislava — 2 740 forints (9 euro), to Vienna — 5 470 forints (18 euro). Transfer from Budapest city to the airport will cost you 32, 142 and 158 euro respectively.

Transfer in Budapest vs. Train

Advantages of a private transfer

Without exhausting changes. In order to get to the airport, you will have to change a least once: first, you go to the railway station then to the airport train station, where you change to a bus going to Terminal. You will not have such problems with Kiwitaxi: a driver will meet you where it is convenient for you, and take you to your destination.

No need to adjust to timetables, because it is you who chooses the pick-up time.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

Much more expensive, if you are travelling alone or in pair. You will get to the airport by train with a change for 1 070 forints (3,5 euro). A train ticket fare to Bratislava makes 8 500 forints (28 euro), to Prague — 9 130 forints (30 euro), to Vienna — 11 800 forints (38,8 euro).
