How to Get from Cologne Bonn Airport to Other Destinations
Officially called Cologne Bonn Airport, it is the sixth busiest German air hub handling over 10 million passengers a year. It’s situated 15 km southeast of Cologne city center and 16 km northeast of Bonn city center. If you wonder how to reach your destination from here, consider these options: local taxi cabs, individual pre-ordered transfers, and public transportation.
Taxi from Cologne Airport
Taxi ranks at the airport can be found close to both passenger terminals (follow special signs to find them). Cabs are waiting here round the clock. Also, you may order a taxi via desks inside the terminals (in the departure hall of Terminal 1 and in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2). A taxi trip to Bonn - around €40, and to the other one €30. Travel times to both cities are around 30 minutes. There are several taxi companies serving the airport area, and you can also book a vehicle by calling one of them.
Transfer from Cologne Airport
If you don’t want to search or wait for a cab or you have large baggage which is hard to be brought on a bus or a train, a Kiwitaxi transfer may be a convenient option for you. If you arrange it, your driver will meet you right when you arrive so that you won’t need to wait. Also, the transfer driver will help you to load your baggage in the car. Travel to Cologne (in an Economy-class car) will cost you €53. If you’re a group, a minibus transfer might be an ideal option for you. We offer fixed rates and a large variety of destinations. Also, you may book a return transfer in case you need to return there in a while.
Public Transport from Cologne Airport
If you want to save money on your trip, consider taking public transport. First, you may use trains (city services S13 and S19 or suburban ones RE6 and RE8) to reach Cologne. The fare is €2.8. To get to Bonn, you may use only RE8 which goes to Bonn-Beuel (to reach the center, change to the tram N62). This ticket will cost you €7.8.
Another budget option is buses. Thus, Line 161 will take you from the airport to Cologne (Porz Markt) for around €5.5. Line SB60 will get you to Bonn central train station for €8. Also, there are some intercity lines running from the air hub.
Bear in mind that these services stop operating at night. You may use only taxis or pre-arranged transfers to leave the air hub at these hours.
Useful Information
The airport consists of two passenger terminals located close to each other. They are open 24/7.
