Transfers vs. Public Transport and Taxi in Side
Side is a resort town on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast located between Alanya and Antalya. By the way, Antalya has the nearest airport to Side. The way to it by car takes about an hour.
How to get from Side City Center to the nearest airport, train station or to the neighboring cities
The choice of transport in Side is quite small. Here are three travel options:
- buses and minibuses (dolmus). You can get to the bus station by route №10. From the bus station, minibuses go to Manavgat and to the neighboring resort villages of Sorgun, Kyzyl Agash, Cholakly, and Titreyengol;
- taxi. In Side, you can either book a taxi cab by phone, or through the app. Uber doesn't work here;
- private transfer. This is one of the most convenient travel options in Turkey. It should be booked in advance on the website.
The schedule of dolmus and buses is constantly changing. If you are planning an excursion in the afternoon, it is better to decide how to get back in Side in the evening in advance.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Side (taken on the spot or ordered via the app)
Advantages of a private transfer
It’s 25 dollars cheaper to get to Antalya Airport. A taxi trip costs 270 TL (69 dollars). The transfer from Side to the airport will cost you 44 dollars.
Transfer price doesn't increase at night. However, the cost of a taxi in Turkey at night is 50% higher than in the daytime.
You can make bookings and payments on the website. You don't need to look for a car and exchange currency to pay for the trip like in taxi. You can also choose a type of vehicle suitable for you, for example, an economy class car or a minivan.
Travel to Manavgat at the same price, but with greater comfort. Taxi costs 142 TL (36 dollars), while transfer costs 30 dollars. The driver of the transfer will meet you at the right time, help you with the luggage, drive safe, and take you fast to your hotel or other needed destination. In addition, the vehicle will be no more than seven years old.
Transfer in Side vs. Public Transport
Advantages of a private transfer
You can be sure that you will leave on time. Side bus station is just a place where buses stand. It neither has ticket offices, nor timetables. How often do routes depart? What time can you leave? Questions without an answer. However, the situation with a transfer is quite clear: you order a car for a certain time, and the driver meets you on time.
You don't need to change buses en route. For example, if you are traveling from Side to Antalya, you will first have to reach the bus stop on the D400 road and find the connecting bus there.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
More expensive if you are traveling alone or with somebody. It is possible to reach Antalya Airport by dolmus at the fare of 36-49 TL (9-12 dollars) and to go to Manavgat for 24-35 TL (6-8,50 dollars). However, if you are traveling in a group of four people, it is beneficial to order a transfer.
What is worth visiting in Side?
First, you should go to the historical center of Side. The main attractions of the resort are concentrated here: the ruins of the ancient Greek square of Agora, the temple of Tyche, the Palace of the Bishop, the Basilica, the Fountain of Nymphaeum, the ancient amphitheater.
The famous Manavgat Waterfall is near the city. You can arrange a yacht trip there or sit in one of the fish restaurants. In order to reach the waterfall you will have to pay 3.5 TL (0,90 dollars).
Children will enjoy themselves at the waterpark Water Planet. You can reach it by car in about 30 minutes, it is located on the way to Alanya.
