Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Riga Airport
Riga International Airport is the busiest air hub in the Baltic states in terms of passengers. Its three-story terminal serves around 5 million people a year. The first story is designed for arriving passengers, and the second one — for departing ones. From the capital of Latvia, tourists can go to the resort cities of Jurmala, Liepaja, and Daugavpils, as well as the cities of Tallinn, Vilnius, and Siauliai.
How to get from Riga Airport to Riga city center or the other way round
The air hub is located 13 km away from the city center. You can choose one of the following transport options to get to the city:
- buses № 22. They run from the airport to the center of Riga from 05:45 to 00:10, with the interval of 10–15 minutes (the interval between the first and the second trip is 30 minutes). Tickets can be bought at the ‘Welcome to Riga!’ office at the airport (the first floor of the terminal, Arrivals sector Е), at Narvesen kiosks (floors 1 and 2 of the terminal), at ticket machines at the stops, or from the driver;
- minibuses № 222 and № 241. They run from about 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., every 10–15 minutes. They will also take you to the center. In order to pay the fare, you will need to purchase an e-ticket at the airport information desks (they can also be bought at Narvesen kiosks) or just buy a ticket from the driver;
- a taxi. It can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app on your smartphone;
- a transfer. You book it online in advance.
The public transport stop can be found in front of the terminal exit, behind the parking lot Р1. After midnight, you will be able to leave the air hub only by taxi or transfer.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Riga Airport ordered via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
You may be sure that your trip will be safe. Taxi drivers may register in apps without having special licenses. Thus, passengers know nothing about the driver’s qualification, his/her experience, and the technical condition of the vehicle. All Kiwitaxi drivers are licensed and take personal responsibility for a trip.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
More than 20 euros more expensive. Taxi apps like Taxify and Click Taxi offer the price of 7-10 euros for a taxi from Riga Airport to the city center. Our service on the same route costs from 33 euros.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Riga Airport taken on the spot
Advantages of a private transfer
You don’t waste your time. While others are wasting their time in a queue to a taxi stand, you’re already going to the city in a comfortable vehicle.
A suitable car is waiting for you, not vice versa. There is no guarantee that you will find a car suitable for you in terms of passenger and baggage capacity at the air hub. It may come to you from the car park, but it will take a long time. On the Kiwitaxi website, you choose the right car, and it will be waiting for you at the terminal exit once you’ve arrived.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
About two times more expensive. According to Baltic Taxi Lidosta and Red Cab (official airport taxi) tariffs, a journey to Riga costs 11–15 euros.
Transfer from Riga Airport vs. Bus and Minibus
Advantages of a private transfer
You can travel at night. After midnight, public transport stops running from the air hub to the city and vice versa. A Kiwitaxi car can be booked for any time you need.
No need to make changes in the city. Buses and minibuses will take you only to the city center, and then you will have to change to another means of transport.
Three times faster. A journey to the city by public transport will take you about 40 minutes (including waiting time). A Kiwitaxi transfer will take you from Riga Airport to the city center in just 13 minutes.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
More expensive even for a group. One ticket for a bus or a minibus costs 1.15 euros (and 2 euros if you buy it from the driver).
