Varna Airport: Transfers and Taxi
Transfers from Varna Airport
Pre-booked transfers from Varna Airport (VAR) are the quickest and most comfortable way to reach major Bulgarian resorts such as Albena, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach, Sozopol, Sveti Vlas, and Saints Constantine and Helena. Also, they can take you to some destinations in the neighboring country of Romania — for instance, the cities of Bucharest and Constanta and their air hubs.
Here’s why you should consider using this travel option:
You won’t have to wait for it and look for its pick-up location. Your driver will meet you at the designated meeting point at the terminal strictly at the specified time. He will be holding a sign with your name on it. Also, he will help you with your bags.
You won’t have to buy Bulgarian Leva to pay for it. When making a prepayment online, you can choose a more suitable currency for you.
You won’t face any language problems. Your driver will receive all the ride details ahead of time, so there will be no need for you to discuss anything with him on-site. Even if any questions arise, you can always contact our English-speaking customer support team.
If you plan to travel with small children, remember to reserve the necessary amount of booster or child car seats.
The distance between the air hub and the city of Varna is 10 km. Getting to your accommodation in the city by private transfer will take you approximately 8 mins and will cost you 16€.
Taxi from Varna Airport
It is strictly recommended that you ignore private taxi drivers outside the terminal building, as they often overcharge tourists. A more reliable option is the official airport taxi partner called ‘Triumf Taxi’ — you can reserve their cab via their desks in the Arrivals zone, on their official website, or by phone. Official taxis are painted yellow. They charge metered fares.
The average price for a taxi trip from the air hub to the city center is 16 BGN or around 9€.
Keep in mind that if you get stuck in traffic, the fare may increase significantly. Also, note that fares are more expensive between 10 pm and 6 am. If you are a large group, be ready to take two or more taxis, as finding a large one may be quite difficult. If you want a vehicle that will accommodate all of you, choose a private transfer — booking with Kiwitaxi, you can choose from several minibusses with the largest one having 19 seats.
Public Transport from Varna Airport
The bus route 409 is the only public transport service connecting the air hub to the city. It reaches the Cathedral stop in the city center in 20 mins. Buses leave every 15 mins from the stop near Terminal 2 (you can find it to the right of the terminal exit). The fare is 3 BGN — you can only get a ticket from the conductor (in the local currency only). Also, this bus route can take you to the nearby resorts of Saints Constantine and Helena and Golden Sands (50 mins). During night hours, this transport option is not available.
The major drawback of buses is that during the tourist season, they can get extremely packed. Also, as the air hub is not their starting point, they may arrive there already full.
Booking a Private Transfer from Varna Airport
To make a reservation on the Kiwitaxi website, you need to select the route and the desired car class and specify the date and time of your journey. For a more comfortable trip, you can add some extra services to your booking (for instance, drinking water or an extra stop along the route).
Also, you can make a prepayment with your debit or credit card. After your payment is made, you will receive an email confirming your booking.
Bookings need to be made at least 24 hours in advance. But even if you leave your request later, we’ll try to find an available driver for you.
Cost of Airport Transfer from Varna
The cost of the private transfer compared to other ways to get to the city
Unlike other travel options, a private transfer doesn’t always require payments in Bulgarian Leva: you can prepay for it in the currency that is more suitable for you.
