Rome Fiumicino Airport: Transfers and Taxi
Transfers from Rome Fiumicino Airport
This air hub was named after Leonardo da Vinci and is one of the two operating in the eternal city. It is considered one of the busiest air hubs in Europe with annual passenger traffic of around 38 million. It is situated in a small village of the same name, 30 minutes away from the Termini train station by train.
If you are traveling to this city for the first time and do not speak Italian, you will find it quite convenient to book airport transfers from Rome FCO with Kiwitaxi. The driver will meet you at the arrivals hall, walk you to the car and start the ride. This will rid you of the need to wander around the air hub looking for transport services, negotiating the price with taxi drivers and wasting a lot of time instead of sightseeing. If you are traveling with children or lots of luggage, you will find the service handy, too, as you will get the vehicle with child seats installed or spacious minivan fitting all your belongings. You just need to specify all this in the booking form.
From this air hub, tourists most often travel to the city center from 59 euro, Termini trains station from 56 euro, to the Vatican from 57 euro, to Civitavecchia Port from 140 euro or various resorts such as Lido di Ostia from 56 euro or Tivoli from 91 euro. The ride to the city, for example, lasts as short as 50 minutes.
Taxi from Rome Fiumicino Airport
At this air hub, you can find official cabs queued up at the exits of Terminals 1 and 3. They are white and have a “TAXI” sign on the roof. There is usually also the symbol of the municipality on the front door and the license number visible from the outside. The FCO management warns tourists to refrain from using unlicensed taxis as they may not only increase the prices but do scams.
There is a fixed price for a trip to the city center (within the Aurelian Walls) which is 48 euro. However, if you need to travel to some other place, you will have to negotiate the price with the driver personally, which may be quite hard as local drivers speak poor English. Remember that price for trips to any destination within the Grande Raccordo Anulare cannot exceed 70 euros. So if you are afraid of using local cab services, it may be worth booking Kiwitaxi.
Public Transport from Fiumicino Airport
To get from the air hub to the capital center, you can take a bus, train or rent a car if you have a driving license.
Bus. Take a bus of Cotral, SIT, T.A.M., Terravision or Schiaffini companies that run every 30 minutes. You can buy tickets online from 5,80 euro, at ticket machines or from the driver; the latter two options will cost more. Buses do not run at night.
Train. You can reach Termini by Trenitalia train. The express train is called Leonardo Express and departs every 15 minutes. The duration of a trip is 32 minutes, and the cost is from 14 euro. You can also take an FL1 regional line to other stations in the capital. From Termini, you can reach other locations outside Rome.
Public transport is not very convenient if you are tired after your flight or arrive late in the evening. You will have not the time or desire to understand the transport system or find out how ticket system functions. At night, public transport doe not run at all.
