Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Madrid Barajas Airport
Madrid Barajas Airport (Aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas) is the biggest airport in Spain. There are four terminals, but the main one is Т4. It services domestic and international flights as well as flights from Schengen area. Daily passenger traffic is more than 126 thousand people (more than 46 million annually). Tourists arriving at Barajas are often heading to Toledo, Segovia, Villanueva de la Cañada, Pinto, Ávila, Valladolid, or Leganés.
How to get from Madrid Barajas Airport to the city center or the other way round
The airport is located 12km away from Madrid. Here we will tell you how to get to the city:
- metro. The Line 8 connects the airport with the business district of Madrid. One can travel from each terminal (follow the signs) to the station Nuevos Ministerios. There is a free green bus running between the terminals. Metro is open from 06:00 am to 01:30 at night, and trains depart every 5–15 minutes. Tickets can be bought in ticket machines at the stations;
- express bus (route 203) runs 24h. The interval between buses is 15–20 minutes during a day, and 35 minutes at night. Shuttle bus goes from Atocha station via the square Plaza de la Cibeles and О´Donell street. From 23:30 to 06:00 it changes its number to N27 and goes only to the square. One can take this bus at the exit of any terminal. Tickets can be bought from a driver;
- RENFE train sets off from Aeropuerto T4 station (1 floor of Terminal 4) and goes via Atocha train station to the Principe Pio station. The first train from the airport departs 05:58, and the last one— at 22:27. Trains from Madrid to Barajas run from 06:02 to 02:33. The interval between trains is 30 minutes, and tickets can be bought in ticket machines, ticket offices, or online;
- taxi from Madrid Barajas, which can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app;
- transfer, booked online in advance and paid by credit card.
At night, it is possible to get to Madrid from the airport by taxi, transfer or express bus. Keep in mind, that the cost of a taxi trip from 21:00 to 05:30 doubles.
Transfer from Madrid Barajas Airport vs. Taxi taken on the spot or ordered via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
No need to wait. Barajas is the fourth busiest European airport after London Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Paris Charles de Gaulle. A huge number of people, like you, will be trying to order a taxi at the airport counter or via the smartphone. Who knows how long you will have to wait for a car. And transfer, for example, will be already at the airport by the time of your arrival.
Choose a suitable car. If your group has more than 4 people, you will not be able to travel in a standard car. Taxi drivers will tell you that you need a bigger car and it should be ordered additionally. With Kiwitaxi you can order a transfer of any class and capacity in advance.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
5–10 euro more expensive. A trip by taxi from Madrid Airport to the city center, including Uber and a local aggregator Cabify, will cost you 30–35 euro. Transfer costs 40 euro.
