How to Get from Cagliari Airport to Other Destinations
Also known as Elmas Airport, it is the gateway to Sardinia resorts as it is the major international air hub in this region. Italians also call it Aeroporto Mario Mameli. The airport is situated in the south of the island, around 10 km from Cagliari. Tourists use public transportation, taxis, and pre-booked transfers to get from here to their destination.
Taxi from Cagliari Airport
If you want to hire a taxi cab, go outside the terminal as these cars are waiting there. There are several companies operating in this area. All taxis have taximeters inside. However, it’s common to tip cab drivers (10%). At daytime, getting from the airport to Cagliari by taxi costs €20-25. At nighttime, be ready to pay more. Cabs can be ordered round the clock.
Transfer from Cagliari Airport
Reserving a private taxi transfer might be the most convenient option in case you don’t want to search for public transport stops and wish to know the final cost of your ride before it. This option will save you time: you won’t have to look for a car and discuss the trip with the driver. When you land at the air hub, our transfer driver will already be waiting for you in the arrivals area. He/she will know all the trip details in advance. The price for an Economy-class transfer to Cagliari is €25, and to Sassari - €264. Transfer fares remain fixed after you make your reservation.
Public Transportation from Cagliari Airport
First, one can get from the airport to Cagliari by bus. The fare is €4, and this travel will take you around 10 minutes. It’s better to purchase tickets in advance (for instance, from a newspaper kiosk).
Second, one can reach the city by train. This trip will cost you €1.3 and will take you 10-15 minutes. Also, trains can get you from here to other Sardinian cities (for instance, a trip to Olbia costs €18, and to Sassari - €16.5). All the information can be found on the Trenitalia. Tickets can also be reserved there.
Note that the only option to leave the air terminal at night is by taxis or pre-ordered transfers.
