I was pleasantly surprised that my return ride was GREAT. I had some problems with my first ride from the Istanbul Airport into town and had planned to also handle the return trip with Kiwitaxi. This drive and this trip was very good. Although Madagascar is located near the coast of Africa, it is very different from it. The inhabitants of the island are closer in their roots to the Indonesians and Malays, and the main type of agriculture here is rice cultivation. However, one can find something African in this country, too — for instance, in Antsirabe, one can take a stroll along Baobab Alley with some 800-year old trees. Another interesting sight in the city is Dead Lake which has no living creatures although the composition and temperature of its water are suitable for fish and algae. The capital of the country, Antananarivo, once had no single building. The royal palace complex of Ambohimanga Rova became the exception and was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

There are official and private taxis in Madagascar. The first ones may be distinguished by the ADEMA logo. Such cars are always equipped with meters. Each baggage unit is charged extra. If you deal with private drivers, you need to negotiate the trip cost in advance, and this is usually much cheaper than traveling according to a meter. The price may be influenced by the distance to the destination and traffic congestion. And note that drivers in the country are rather slow: the average travel speed here is 20 km/h.
