How to Get to Gudauri

Gudauri is a village and a ski resort in Georgia. Located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, it is a popular destination for freeride skiers. In this article, we’ve collected several pieces of advice on transportation to Gudauri from Tbilisi area.

Taxi to Gudauri

Tbilisi Airport is the closest international air hub to the resort. You may take a local taxi outside the terminal – right at the curbside of the Arrival Hall. As cabs are metered, their prices depend on road traffic. To get to the resort from Tbilisi air hub by taxi, it will cost 55-70 euros and take 2 hours and 45 minutes. A trip from the central railway station will cost 40-60 euros and nearly 2 hours. Night and weekend taxi tariffs are usually higher.

Transfer to Gudauri

Compared to taxi, an individual transfer is more convenient as it is pre-booked in advance and corresponds to customers’ demands and preferences. With such option, you choose a suitable vehicle class and order a car to arrive by the time you need.

To pre-book a private transfer at Kiwitaxi, you should specify in the reservation a pick-up address, a drop-off point, date and time, a number of passengers and child seats (if traveling with small children). Depending on the transfer class you choose, a fixed fare for getting from the air terminal starts from 58 euros. The trip takes around 2 hours 45 minutes. A 2-hour taxi transfer from the central railway station will cost from 53 euros. The fares are fixed and the same for day and night hours.

At Kiwitaxi, you don’t need to make advance payments and can pay to a driver at the end of the trip. Also, there’s a possibility to book a return transfer at once.

Public Transport to Gudauri

Once a day, at 7:30 pm, a bus to Gudauri departs from the airport. Tickets cost 11 euros, the trips takes 3 hours or so. Note, that this line is available only during the ski season. Also, you may catch a train to the central railway station, change to a metro train to Didube station, and then catch a minibus to Gudauri at the bus terminal. The whole trip can stretch to 4 hours and cost 4-7 euros per person.

Although local public transport is rather cheap, it is inconvenient as well: small uncomfortable seats, little space for luggage, and no designated seats for small children. Also, unlike taxi and transfer services, it is unavailable at night.

This is a developing winter sports resort in Georgia. Freeride – a type of off-piste skiing – is the main local curiosity. Usually, a ski season here starts from the second half of December and lasts until May.
