A Taste of Florence: Your Complete Food Guide

After spending months in Florence, I’ve created this guide to help travellers experience the city the way locals do — through cafés, pastries, pasta, sandwiches, pizza, and cozy aperitivo spots. These are the places I return to again and again.

Coffee & Breakfast

I love coffee and can’t imagine starting my day without a cappuccino — so I’m beginning with my favorite cafés for breakfast, pastries, or a quick croissant break.

Ditta Artigianale

A Florence-born specialty coffee chain with several locations across the city. Excellent coffee, pastries, and a full breakfast menu. They also recently introduced a loyalty program.

Il Conventino

A cozy multifunctional space where you can come for coffee, aperitivo, or a quiet work session. They also host workshops, markets, and creative events.

Wild Buns Bakery

A Scandinavian-style bakery run by a young entrepreneur, Robert. Famous for cinnamon rolls, Danish pastries, and warm Scandinavian comfort. They recently opened a second location — and it’s absolutely delicious.

Oblate

A café with a terrace overlooking Florence’s iconic cathedral. Simple, quiet, and ideal for a morning coffee with a view.

Coffee & Breakfast

La Ménagère

A flower shop and home decor store combined with a beautiful café offering pancakes, avocado toasts, and modern breakfast plates. Aesthetic, stylish, and great for slow mornings.

Pasticceria Nencioni

A historic pastry shop with a very authentic Italian atmosphere. Fresh pastries, traditional desserts, and a real Florentine vibe.

Brac & Todo Modo

Two lovely bookstores with cafés inside. Warm, quiet, and great for slow mornings or an afternoon break with a book.

Melaleuca

A riverside café with cinnamon rolls, pancakes, bowls, and hearty breakfast options. Cozy, modern, and always welcoming.

Cibreo (Caffè)

A historic Florentine spot where you can stop by for a coffee and a pastry. Charming, traditional, and full of character.

Where to Eat Pasta

Trattoria Cammillo

Call ahead and book — it's one of Florence’s best. The menu changes with the seasons, the food is outstanding, the service is warm, and the atmosphere is unforgettable.

Trattoria ZaZa

A true Florence must-visit. The huge menu, great prices, and many truffle dishes make it fun and delicious. Take a walk through the different rooms — the interior is part of the experience.

Cibreo Ristorante

Their tagliolini is a must-try and even mentioned in The New York Times as one of the best pasta dishes. A beloved local institution — definitely book in advance.

Canto del Ramerino

A restaurant with a wide-ranging menu. My personal favorite is the pasta with prawns and zucchini. Try to get a window table — the view is lovely during lunch or dinner.

Trattoria Napoleone

A great place for both lunch and dinner. Tasty dishes, friendly service, and a cozy interior.

Where to Eat Pasta

Schiacciata (Florentine Sandwiches)

This is a must-try local specialty — crispy, warm, generously filled sandwiches that Florence is famous for.

Pino’s Sandwiches

Super tasty and very authentic. The owner is almost always there, preparing sandwiches himself. Their team has great energy — check out their TikTok for the vibes.

All’Antico Vinaio

Now a global sensation. The sandwiches are huge (order one to share!), and the fillings are fresh and bold. A Florence classic.

Places to Try Pizza

Da Michele

Huge, delicious Neapolitan pizzas. The Florence location is great, but this is also the same Da Michele where Julia Roberts ate pizza in Eat Pray Love in Naples.

Gustapizza

You’ll probably have to wait in line, but it’s worth it. One of the city’s top pizzas.

Il Pizzaiuolo

A full restaurant — not only pizza — but their pizzas are excellent and served quickly.

New Bridge Pizza Club

A modern pizzeria with great flavors. Casual, friendly, and delicious.

Pizzeria O’Vesuvio

I loved grabbing their small takeaway pizza — only €3 and surprisingly good.

Aperitivo

Serre Torrigiani in Piazzetta

Amazing bartenders, great cocktails, and the most beautiful courtyard with lights and a warm atmosphere. A perfect evening spot.

Babae

Come here for wine and snacks — and don’t miss their legendary wine window. Cozy, lively, and very Florentine.

Aperitivo

Florence is a city where food is part of everyday life — coffee, pastries, pasta, wine, and small rituals that make the experience warm and unforgettable. These places are the ones that made me feel at home in the city, and I hope they’ll help you enjoy Florence just as much.
