How to Get from Pattaya U-Tapao Airport to Other Destinations
U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International is a small air hub situated 40 km away from Pattaya and 140 km away from Bangkok. It has only one passenger terminal handling not more than 400 passengers a day. If you’re arriving at U-Tapao and wonder how to reach the city of Pattaya or other resorts, you may consider taking one of the local shuttles or a taxi or pre-arranging a private transfer.
Taxi from Pattaya Airport
It’s not difficult to find a taxi rank at the air hub: it can be found right near its entrance. Besides, a cab can be booked through a desk inside the arrivals hall. As for the cost of a taxi trip, it will depend on the remoteness of your destination. Travel to Pattaya will cost 1,000 baht (around $31) for a standard car for 3 passengers. A minivan taxi for 6 passengers will cost 1,500 baht (around $46). Such a ride takes around 40 minutes.
Transfer from Pattaya Airport
If you don’t want to spend your time waiting for a shuttle or a taxi (during high season, there can be lines for them), consider pre-booking a private transfer. With Kiwitaxi, you won’t have to wait or look for a stop at the airport as the driver will meet you inside the terminal right when you arrive. You will know the transfer price in advance, at the time of booking. The fare can be paid beforehand via your credit card, and this can help you avoid the hassle of exchanging money upon arrival. An Economy-class transfer to Pattaya will cost $34 (this price includes 3 baggage items).
Also, you may order a return transfer and not worry about getting to the airport after your beach holidays.
Public Transport from Pattaya Airport
There’s no public transport running from the airport so you can only take a private shuttle minibus. When exiting the air hub, you’ll see lots of Thai people offering such services. If you choose this option, you’ll have to pay 250 baht (around $8) to get to Pattaya. These buses take passengers right to their hotels. However, if your hotel is located far, this trip may take you quite a long time. Also, you’ll have to wait until a minibus is filled, and sometimes, this may take up to an hour.
If you wish to get to your destination as soon as possible or you need to leave U-Tapao Airport at nighttime, it would be better to catch a taxi or pre-order a transfer.
Although the airport here is quite small, it has all the facilities needed. Here, one can have a meal, buy souvenirs, exchange money, rent a car, purchase an excursion from a travel agency, etc.
