How to Get from Phuket Airport to Patong
Phuket Airport is the only air hub on the island of the same name. Most foreign tourists usually head from its International Terminal to the beaches of Patong, Karon, and Kata. However, the most popular of these resorts is Patong. The distance between Phuket Airport and it is 38 km. To travel on this route, tourists take taxis, transfers, and public transportation.
Taxi from Phuket Airport to Patong
There are two types of cabs at Phuket Airport. Taxis of the first type are prepaid. You can book one inside the air hub (this will cost 800 baht or around $25.2). If you go outside the building, you will see a stand where you can order a metered taxi. If you choose this option, getting to Patong will cost you almost the same (750-850 baht including the air hub charge of 100 baht). The drawback of taxis at Phuket Airport is that there may be long queues for them.
Transfer from Phuket Airport to Patong
For those arriving late in the evening and those who hate long queues and cramped public transport, a Kiwitaxi transfer will be a good choice.
The price for a taxi transfer from Phuket Airport to Patong for 3 passengers is $31. You can easily reserve a car via the Internet, and once you do it, the rate will remain fixed. If you choose a transfer, you won’t have to wait for long until you leave: our driver will pick you up at the appointed time. Besides, you won’t have to share a vehicle with strangers.
You may also reserve a return transfer from Patong to Phuket Airport at once.
Public Transport from Phuket Airport to Patong
The cheapest way to reach Patong from Phuket Airport is by bus (Phuket Airport Express). The fare is 120-150 baht (around $3.8-4.7). However, they are not that frequent.
Another option is minivans/minibuses. If you choose one of them, you will have to pay 180-200 baht (around $5.7-6.3) for a trip. They don’t have timetables and leave once all the seats are taken. These vehicles are cramped, but they will get you right to your hotel. However, they will also drop you off at travel agencies where the staff will try to sell you various tours.
Note that these services will not be available late in the evening and at night (in this case, take a taxi or reserve a private transfer).
Patong is the most popular resort on the whole island. Its Bangla Road is a true paradise for party-goers, and Jungceylon shopping mall is a great place for shopping lovers. Although the beach of Patong is always lively and crowded, everyone will find a place here.
