How to Get from Phuket City to Other Destinations
Situated in south-east Phuket Island, it is one of the oldest cities and a popular tourist destination in Thailand. International Airport, located 32 km from the city center, annually receives over 16 million passengers. In this article, we’ll give several tips on getting around Phuket city.
Taxi from Phuket City
Metered taxi cabs are a rare thing on the Phuket Island, while taxi services offering flat rates are more frequent. If you catch a yellow “Taxi Meter”, make sure the driver turns a meter on. With an unmetered cab, negotiate a price before getting in, or, even try to bargain a fare. A taxi trip from Phuket city to Patong costs around 21 euros and takes half an hour. If you’re finishing your vacation and heading to the air hub, you’ll have to spend about 20 euros and 50 minutes on the taxi journey.
Transfer from Phuket City
Private transfers are booked in advance and provided by the specific time you need. To make a reservation on Kiwitaxi website, you should specify your trip details: when and where you want to be picked up and dropped off, how many passengers go, if you need child seats. A transfer from here to Patong costs from 23 euros and takes 30 minutes. A 2-hour transfer to Krabi resort, which is inaccessible for public ground transportation, costs from 89 euros. Kiwitaxi charges are fixed and range according to car classes: economy, business, premium, etc. One can also order a van, a minivan, or a minibus for a larger group of passengers.
After placing the order, you’ll receive all the information to your email. On the date of transfer, our driver will meet you at the pick-up place, help you with luggage, and bring you to the destination. All you’ll have to do is to enjoy a comfortable ride.
Public Transport from Phuket City
The cheapest way to get around the island is traveling by bus. Local “beach blue” buses’ destinations include Kata, Kamala, Thalang, and other popular towns and beaches. They are to depart every 30 minutes, but drivers tend to wait for more passengers before starting. A ticket to Patong costs less than 1 euro, and the trip takes about 40 minutes.
A journey to remote Khao Lak will take a considerable time – over 6 hours. You’ll have to change a bus at Khao Sok, making two long trips and paying 14-16 euros per person.
Unlike taxis and transfers available round the clock, public transport operates strictly from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
