How to Get from Kanchanaburi to Other Destinations
Kanchanaburi is one of the most picturesque provinces of Thailand. Its capital (the town of the same name) is located about 130 km northwest of Bangkok. To travel to or from it, one can use different modes of public transport or taxi and transfer services.
Taxi from Kanchanaburi
If you are going to take a taxi in Kanchanaburi on the street, be ready to negotiate. The final cost of your trip will depend directly on your negotiation skills (if you speak Thai, your chances to considerably reduce the rate increase). On average, a taxi trip from Kanchanaburi to Bangkok costs 2200 baht (around $79). But the luckiest ones manage to bring the price down to 1500 baht. However, if you don’t want to do all this, it would be better to order a taxi with some official company (that will be safer and more reliable, as well).
Transfer from Kanchanaburi
If you want to avoid stress explaining the taxi driver where you need to go to and negotiating how much this will cost and you want your travel to be as comfortable as possible, organizing a transfer with Kiwitaxi will be a good idea.
A transfer from Kanchanaburi to the capital for 4 people costs $106, to Suvarnabhumi Airport - $107, and to Don Mueang Airport - $108. Prices remain fixed after you make your order. For any questions regarding transfers, you may always contact our English-speaking support.
You may also choose transfers to other Thai destinations (Ayutthaya, Hua Hin, etc.)
Public Transport from Kanchanaburi
There are a few minibuses (minivans) running from Kanchanaburi to the capital. The average fare is 150 baht (around $4.7). Most of them stop running after 6 pm. If you have plenty of baggage, this option will not be that comfortable.
As for trains going to Bangkok railway station, they are very uncomfortable: they are not air-conditioned and have only wooden seats. They depart twice a day (at 07:20 am and 02:55 pm). Rail travel costs 100 baht (around $3.1).
The cost of a bus journey will depend on the type of the vehicle. The first-class service (an air-conditioned bus) offers the price of 110 baht (around $3.5).
If you need to leave the town late in the evening or even at night, it would be better to pre-book a transfer or a taxi.
