How to Get from Weligama to Other Destinations
Located on the south coast of Sri Lanka, resort town Weligama's name translates as a sandy village and does not fail to deliver on the promise of stretching beaches. The coastal town also has the only privately owned island of the country, Taprobane, at the bay. There are private tours to see the natural beauty of the area as well as elephants. The bay area is also very popular for surfers with its mild waves and you can find different schools to learn to ride the waves. The other south coast towns Galle and Unawatuna are 30 minutes away from Weligama and the famous Mirissa beach is one tuk-tuk away. Inland gems like Ella and Kandy are 4 hours drive away from the beach.
Taxi from Weligama
Tuk-Tuks are more favorable in towns but, for longer distances, taxis offer a more secure and comfortable ride. You can flag down taxis on the street or call one from your hotel. But only in the capital, taxis are metered. Even though that means no different tariffs, the price still changes each time and you might have to bargain your way around. From Weligama to Colombo Airport, it costs around 13000LKR and to Unawatuna and Galle, it costs around 35000LKR.
Public Transport from Weligama
Public transport is the cheapest option as it usually it. You have the options of trains and buses. As for the coastal towns, there is always a line that connects the cities to the capital. To Galle, for example, it costs 60LKR and to Colombo, it is around 150LKR. Trains are usually crowded and there are 3 different ticket classes. To Colombo, you have the options of commuter and express trains. The first class ticket price is 400LKR and a third class is 120LKR but it is without seat reservation and not recommended.
Private Transfer from Weligama
The lack of a meter with the taxis make them unreliable and prone to problems. The public transport here sometimes has a limited schedule and tends to be very crowded on the weekends. Thus, the absence of the language barrier might make a private transfer a convenient option for you. How do I book a transfer in Weligama?
Enter the departure location in the “From” field and the destination in the “To” field. You can enter the name of the place or specify the exact address. The drop-down suggestions will make the search faster and easier.
Then, click on the “View Prices” button. Select the required transfer class and click "Book" to continue with the booking.
How far in advance should I book a transfer in Weligama?
The timing depends on the vehicle class.
Premium class vehicles or Minibus for 10, 13, 16 or 19 pax should be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Standard vehicles (Micro, Economy, Comfort, Minivan 4 pax, Minibus 7 pax) should be booked at least 16 hours prior to your trip.
If you don't have that much time, you can book an urgent transfer. We will inform you as soon as possible whether we can provide the service or not.
What should I do if my flight to Weligama is delayed?
As soon as you find out that your flight is delayed, please inform your driver by calling the phone number provided to you, contacting Customer Support via e-mail at support@kiwitaxi.com, by using the online chat on our website, or by calling +442080682801.
Provide the order number and the new arrival time.
What should I do if my flight to Weligama arrives early?
