Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan Airport
Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan Airport is the largest and most modern air hub in the Balearic Islands. It is the third-largest Spanish airport (with the first one being Madrid Barajas Airport and the second one — Barcelona El Prat Airport). Annually, Mallorca air hub receives more than 20 million passengers. Tourists come here to have a beach holiday at the resorts of Alcudia, Playa de Muro, Magaluf, and Can Picafort.
How to get from Palma de Mallorca Airport to Palma de Mallorca city center or the other way round
The air hub is located 8 km away from the city center. Here are the options to get to it:
- bus lines 1 and 21. The first line buses will take you to the city center (bus station) and Palma de Mallorca Port. The first bus from the airport departs at 06:00, and the last one — at 01:10. The interval is 15 minutes. Line 21 buses run to the resort of S'Arenal from 07:00 to 00:30 (to 22:10 in winter), every 30 minutes. The bus stop is right in front of the exit from the arrivals terminal;
- taxi from Palma Airport to Palma, which can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app;
- transfer, booked online in advance.
If you’re arriving after midnight, you will be able to leave the air hub only by taxi or transfer.
Transfer from Palma de Mallorca Airport vs. Taxi taken on the spot or ordered via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
You won’t have to deal with unfamiliar apps. You won’t be able to call a taxi in Mallorca with familiar aggregators like Uber and Gett. There are local apps Taxible and ibtaxi, but it is not clear how well they work: they were downloaded only few times and have no feedback. Moreover, Taxible can be downloaded only from Google Play.
Available in 5 languages. Taxis on the island can be booked mostly in Spanish — both at a rank and via the app. The Kiwitaxi website is available in five languages, and you can always contact our 24/7 customer support team.
More attentive service. Unlike a taxi driver, our driver will not only take you to your hotel — he/she will meet you at the airport with a name sign, help you with your baggage, choose the shortest and safest route, and drive carefully.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
Several euros more expensive. For example, getting from Palma de Mallorca Airport to the resorts of Alcudia and Playa de Muro by taxi will cost you 70–80 euros. A transfer will cost 87 euros.
Transfer from Palma de Mallorca Airport vs. Bus
Advantages of a private transfer
You will get straight to your hotel. Unlike a transfer, buses won’t take you to your hotel door.
Just 3.8 euros more expensive per person if you are travelling in a group. A Kiwitaxi minibus for 7 passengers will cost 62 euros — 8.8 euros per passenger. The city bus fare is 5 euros. However, a transfer will take you right to your hotel.
You can travel at night. Buses from the airport to the city don’t operate from 01:00 to 06:00. Transfers can be booked for any time needed.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
More expensive in case you’re travelling solo or in a pair. One bus ticket costs 5 euros.
