Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Barcelona El Prat Airport
Barcelona El Prat Airport is a popular destination spot for international tourists, who intend to visit both Barcelona and the nearest cultural and touristic spots: Salou, Capella, Lloret de Mar, and others. There are two big terminals T1 and T2 in the airport, connected by a free shuttle bus route.
How to get from Barcelona El Prat Airport to the city center and the other way round
Barcelona El Prat Airport is only 16-17 km away from Barcelona and one can get to the city in different ways:
- by city buses N46 and N17 (night bus);
- by RENFE trains to the platform El Clot in Barcelona;
- by private shuttle buses Aerobus, which run to the city center without stops;
- by taxi, called on site;
- by transfer, booked online in advance.
Barcelona Airport is almost the only one in Europe where you cannot call a taxi via the app. The reason is the difficulty to obtain the taxi service license in Spain and mass taxi drivers’ campaign against Uber company in Barcelona.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Barcelona Airport to city (booked on site)
Advantages of a private transfer
No need to wait in a queue. Note, that in El Prat Airport it is not possible to catch a car or make a deal with an unofficial taxi driver. If you try to flag a car down at the airport, you can get in trouble: the ground staff may give you a notice. So the only way to get a taxi is to join a queue and hope that the car will come to you soon. Unlike taxi, the transfer will not make you wait: you will be met in the airport and walked to the car.
No need to look for a parking place. At the airport, there are four car parks — near Т1 and near each of the three T2 sectors. Internet users recommend looking for a long line of people waiting for a car to drive up. However, an inexperienced tourist, who does not speak Spanish, can easily join the queue to Aerobus instead of a taxi queue. Our transfer at El Prat Airport has three simple meeting points:
- a drivers meeting zone in Т1
- near currency exchange office in Т2А
- near the statue of a black horse in Т2В
You know exactly how much you will pay. Taxi fare from El Prat Airport is based on a starting fee (around €20), as well as additional fees: for driving out of the parking zone (€4,2), for km (1,03 from Т1 and 1,3 from Т2), luggage transportation, a weekend fee and a night fee. A sticker on a car’s rear window is intended to help you figure all this out — but it is in Spanish. If you want to know exactly how much you will pay – book a transfer from Barcelona Airport and pay a fixed price online.
Transfer vs. RENFE trains from Barcelona El Prat Airport
Advantages of a private transfer
Guaranteed seat. RENFE train tickets do not provide fixed seats, so in rush-hours the trains are crowded, and all seats are taken. In our transfers, the seat is saved for you.
Travel to other cities in Spain. RENFE trains from Barcelona El Prat go only to the city. There are no direct routes from the airport to the neighboring resorts, so you will need to change at the central station. With our service, you can travel from the airport to your hotel in another city.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Transfer is more expensive. RENFE ticket will cost you only €3.
It can get stuck in a traffic jam. A train can’t.
Transfer vs. Buses and shuttle buses from Barcelona El Prat Airport
Advantages of a private transfer
Three times as fast. By transfer, you will get to Barcelona in 35 minutes, by shuttle bus in 1 hour, and by bus - in 1 hour 20 minutes, given the waiting time.
Not necessary to know Spanish. To buy a ticket for a public transport, you can use the ticket machines, which sell universal transport tickets for Barcelona (Т10). But, Aerobus ticket machines are often out of the service, and you will have to buy a ticket from the driver for cash. By the way, only 11% of the population in Spain speaks English, which may cause much inconvenience. On the contrary, most transfer drivers speak English, and so does our support service.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
The price is considerably higher than public bus ticket in Barcelona (from €2.15) or shuttle bus ticket (from €5,9).
