How to Get from Kaliningrad City Center to the Airport and Other Destinations
Kaliningrad is an important transport hub in Russia. Along with buses, share taxis, and trains, it has a large international airport called Khrabrovo which receives passengers travelling to and from different points on the globe daily. Besides, one can take a taxi or a transfer.
Taxi from Kaliningrad
When planning how to get to or from Kaliningrad with comfort and without hassle, one immediately thinks of a taxi. There are plenty of taxi companies in the city, but not all of them offer long-distance intercity trips. Of course, every company tries to attract customers with a price lower than that of competitors or with a special convenience of vehicles. Like in many other Russian cities, cars here are usually ordered by phone. It is quite difficult to catch a car on the street, but there are some places (sights, hotels, etc.) where one can find a taxi.
If you are heading to another city - for example, Gdansk or Warsaw, it is better to negotiate a price with a taxi company in advance. The driver would probably like you to pay in cash, as there are usually no terminals in cars.
Passengers often find that the cost of long-distance travel is too high, the driver drives fast and carelessly, and a vehicle itself is far from perfect: it is dirty, uncomfortable, and in a bad technical condition. It is obvious that such a trip won’t give you lots of good emotions.
Transfer from Kaliningrad
In order to be sure that a car will be clean and serviceable, the driver — polite and careful, and the trip cost won’t change upon arrival, it is worth booking a transfer.
On the Kiwitaxi website, you can easily choose not only a route with a fixed cost but also the pick-up date and time as well as the car class which suits you best. If you need a child seat or a spacious vehicle for a large group of people, you can also indicate this in your order. You can make a full payment online or give the amount to the driver after the journey.
A five-hour trip from Kaliningrad to Gdansk by transfer will cost you from 68.5 euros, and to Warsaw (about 7 hours) — from 95.6 euros.
For the convenience of tourists, one can book a round trip at once. You may spend several days in Gdynia, visit the famous town of Sopot or any other interesting place, and then get back to Kaliningrad without any problems.
Public transport from Kaliningrad
One can get to or from Kaliningrad by bus or train. When booking or purchasing bus tickets (for example, for the bus № 802 Kaliningrad – Gdansk), you’ll need to learn the bus timetable. Buses often depart early in the morning (at 6 or 7 a.m.) and arrive almost at midnight. If you buy both-way tickets, the bus company will give you a 10%-discount on a return trip. This discount is also given to students, elderly people, and the youth under 26 years old. Children under 5 can travel for free, and children under 12 — with a 50%-discount. Note, that it is better to purchase a return ticket in Kaliningrad since you won’t be able to buy it in Poland.
