How to Get from Faro Airport to Faro City Center and Other Destinations
This airport, also known as Algarve air hub, is situated 4 km to the west from Faro city. People visiting Southern Portugal – a travel area popular among beach-vacationists – usually arrive at this air terminal. If you are looking for tips on how to get from the airport to the city center or neighboring destinations, you’ll find this article helpful.
Taxi and Transfer from Faro Airport
The air hub provides official taxi service: one can identify local cabs by a black and green color combination. Taxi cabs can be easily found at ranks next to the terminal. Ordinary taxis can admit up to 4 passengers – to get a bigger car, you should call a cab using a free phone in the air hub building. The airport site provides estimated taxi fares for trips to popular destinations: for example, a trip to Faro city center will cost from 11 euros, reaching Lagos resort will make from 87 euros, while getting to Vilamoura – about 35 euros. But be ready, that there will be hundreds of other tourists wishing to leave the airport.
The transfer is your choice, if you need to receive a transportation service right upon arrival, or simply value comfort. At Kiwitaxi transfer company, you can book private transfers from Faro Airport online: for example the economy car to the city will cost 15 euro. All you need to do is choose a preferred car with enough space for luggage, specify the exact pick-up time and stay sure no surprise will interfere with your plans. Public Transport from Faro Airport
You can reach the city for 2.25 euros in 20 minutes by bus N16, departing every half an hour from the stop in front of the arrivals area. It cruises between Faro beach and Faro city center. Getting to other destinations by bus in the Algarve is possible only from the terminal station at Faro city center, as it is the only one directly connected with the airport. Reaching Albufeira by bus, for instance, will cost 7-9 euros and take you half an hour.
From the central train station in Faro city, you can get by rail to most destinations in the Algarve, Portugal, and even Spain. It is situated just in 200 meters from the central bus station. A train trip to Portimao will cost 5-9 euros and take about 1,5 hours, a ticket to Lisbon will make 18-40 euros for a 3,5-hour journey.
About the Airport
It opened in 1966. In the course of the following years, the increased popularity of the Algarve among tourists caused the passenger traffic growth. As a result, the new passenger terminal was built in 20 years. Today, the airport can serve 6 million passengers a year.
