How to get from Albufeira to Faro Airport and Other Destinations
Traveling in Algarve may become one of your most pleasant memories. We’ll help you get prepared for the trip in terms of transportation and share some ideas on how to get from Albufeira to Faro Airport and other popular destinations like towns of Alvor and Lagos.
Taxi from Albufeira
You can easily identify taxi in Albufeira: cabs are usually either beige or green and black waiting at ranks near shopping malls, by the beaches, next to big hotels, etc. Although drivers use a meter and generally don’t intend to rip you off, you can still negotiate a final price before getting into a car.
The service is quite expensive: a trip to Faro air hub costs about 45-55 euros. When ordering a taxi service in Albufeira to get to the airport you can choose between the national road N125 and the highway A22. The first one is free and shorter, but not as safe and comfortable as the paid latter. Besides, you’ll have to pay extra 20% for a 6-seater car (should be pre-booked), as regular taxis in Albufeira take up to four passengers.
Transfer from Albufeira
Private transfers are the most comfortable means to travel in Albufeira and often turn out to be cheaper than taxi.
Booking a transfer online at Kiwitaxi company, one can choose a vehicle class as well as order a child seat if needed. Transfer prices are fixed and not subject to change. For example, you can get from the town to the nearest air hub for 32 euro for an economy car. The thing is you arrange the trip in advance to stay peaceful and sure that the transfer driver will meet you at the exact time and place and safely get you right to the destination.
Public transport from Albufeira
Trains and buses are not a very practicable way to travel from Albufeira. The nearest railway station is in Ferreiras, about 6 km far. To get to the airport one has to reach Ferreiras, take a train to Faro station (situated in the city center), and then take another route.
Albufeira bus station is 1.6 km far from the town – consider reaching the station. A trip to Faro station takes about 50 minutes, then you’ll need to catch one more bus to the airport. Remember, local routes have little space for luggage. Buses also connect Albufeira with neighboring towns. A ticket to Alvor, for example, is about 4 euros, which is cheap comparing to taxi or transfer, but there is still a need to get to the bus terminal.
What to see and to do
Although the town is known for its beautiful beaches and vivid nightlife, there’s much to do at daytime too. Albufeira offers boat trips and fishing tours for active vacationists, Zoomarine with wonderful sea animals for parents and children, the archeological museum or ruins of Paderne Castle for history-lovers.
