How to Get from Amsterdam City Center to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Other Destinations
Amsterdam is the capital and largest city in the Netherlands. Tourists from all over the world come here for its canals, museums, and tulips. To reach the airport or other Dutch cities, they have three travel options: a taxi, a transfer, and public transport.
Taxi from Amsterdam
If you need to take a taxi in Amsterdam, you can order one online, at your hotel reception, at a rank, or by making a phone call. Hailing a cab by raising your hand is not practiced here. In Amsterdam, vehicles belonging to official taxi services have blue number plates, price lists inside and outside them, and drivers’ licenses on their front panels.
Taxi tariffs in the city are one of the highest in Europe, so people don’t tend to tip such drivers. A trip to the airport costs €40-50. If you are going to other cities, the journey cost may be an unpleasant surprise.
Transfer from Amsterdam
If you want to know the exact trip cost beforehand and be guaranteed to reach your destination on time, a Kiwitaxi transfer will be the best option.
A private Economy-class transfer from your hotel in Amsterdam to the airport costs €39, and this price will remain fixed after you make your order. A payment can be made by credit card right on the website. If you are a large group of friends, a minibus transfer will be the most convenient option.
We also offer transfers to other Dutch locations.
Public transport from Amsterdam
If you need to reach Schiphol, you can take the direct train departing from the central rail station. It’s more economical to buy a ticket online (thus, the fare will be €4.30). At night, the train runs with an hour interval. Anyway, it’s better to visit the Dutch Railways website before the trip and make sure the train runs on your departure day, as railroad maintenance works are frequent here. From here, one can also go to other cities (Utrecht, Leiden, Rotterdam, etc.).
At Museumplein and Leidseplein, you can take the bus №197 (№97 at night) which also goes to the air hub. A ticket costs €5. At night, it runs every 50 minutes.
When in Amsterdam, one should take a canal cruise to explore the beauty of the city from the water. There are more than 600 bridges in the city, and the most beautiful pictures from them can be taken in the evening. The most notable sights here include the red-brick Centraal Station, the Damrak, Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the Van Gogh Museum, Madame Tussauds, etc. Also, the city is famous for its nightlife and clubs.
