Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Podgorica Airport
There are two international airports in Montenegro: in Tivat and in the Montenegrin capital — Podgorica. From here tourists travel to Budva, Becici, Tivat, Bar, Kotor, Ulcinj, and other resorts. This air hub serves around 400 000 passengers a year. This is a relatively small flow but the number of passengers peaks in the tourist season (from April to October). It is probably easier to fly here from another country rather than travel to a next city. In our article, you will find the tips on choosing transport.
How to get from Podgorica Airport to the city center or the other way round
The airport is located 11 km away from the city. No public transport goes to the resorts or even to the city center. Tourists can get around only by:
- taxi from Podgorica Airport, which can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app;
- transfer. It can be booked online in advance.
After getting to the city of Podgorica, tourists can travel to their holiday destinations by buses. They depart from the city bus station to different resorts of Montenegro. They run to Budva and Tivat only twice an hour, from 03:30 to 00:30. Routes to Kotor have the same interval, but they operate from 06:00 to 18:30 (and one at 00:30). Buses from the capital to Dubrovnik run only twice a day (at 06:00 and 16:45).
The bus timetable changes depending on the season, so the exact time of departure should be specified at the bus station. Our service and taxi will arrive for you at any time.
Transfer from Podgorica Airport vs. Taxi booked via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
No need to rely on an unknown app. You will not manage to use a familiar taxi aggregator like Uber in Montenegro. The local app, Klik Taxi, is available only in Montenegrin, it has no reviews, and it’s not clear what drivers will be allocated to your order. All our drivers have a license, and it is possible to order our service in 5 languages including English.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
A bit more expensive. A price for a taxi from Podgorica Airport is on average 10–12 euro. And, our service will cost you minimum 21.
Transfer from Podgorica Airport vs. Taxi taken on the spot
Advantages of a private transfer
You will not be picked up by an illegal taxi driver. Illegal drivers relentlessly invent new ways to deceive tourists: they pretend, they were sent by an official company to pick you up. Eventually, the trip costs the passengers 30–50% more.
A trip to Budva is 14 euro cheaper. Official taxi service rate for a trip from the airport to Budva is 55 euro. Kiwitaxi price is 41.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
A trip to Podgorica is 9 euro more expensive. The official taxi to the city costs 12 euro. An economy class car service in our company — 21.
Transfer vs. Buses from Podgorica to the resorts of Montenegro
Advantages of a private transfer
No changes. If you choose this mode of transport, your trip will look like this: you travel from the airport to Podgorica bus station by taxi or transfer, then change to the bus going to your resort, and then somehow get to your hotel. Kiwitaxi driver will take you directly to your hotel, without unnecessary stops and changes.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Cheaper, only if you are travelling in a group of 4 people. A complex route from the airport to Budva city center for two people will cost minimum 31 euro (12 euro — a taxi trip to the city, around 7 euro — a ticket on an inter-city bus, and 2,5 euro — for a city bus ticket to Budva). Our service offers a vehicle for 4 people to your hotel in Budva for 41 euro. Kiwitaxi also has a shared bus service from the air hub to the capital (only 14 euro for 1 person) and to Budva — 27.
