Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Venice Marco Polo Airport
Marco Polo Airport is located in the northeast of Venice. It is named after the famous Venetian traveler. Around 30 millions of such curious Marco Polos arrive in Venice every year. Plan your route carefully in advance to be the first to discover all the sight of Venice.
How to get from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Venice city center or the other way round
So, you are at Marco Polo Airport. There is 12 km between you and Venice. Here are some ways to travel this distance:
- bus ACTV N5 runs from 04:08 to 01:10. Tickets can be bought in the arrivals area or at the bus stop. Do not forget to validate your ticket before a trip;
- Fly Bus shuttle bus (of ATVO company) runs from 07:50 to 00:20. Tickets can be bought at 79 and 80 counters in the arrivals area; in ticket machine at the bus stop, or from a driver;
- motorboat Alilaguna or water taxi departs from the pier near the airport. Operating time is from 06:15 to 00:40, tickets can be bought in Alilaguna ticket office at the airport, in the pier ticket office or online;
- taxi from Venice airport, which can be booked via the app or taken on the spot;
- transfer, booked online in advance.
Buses and express shuttle buses stop operating around 1 am, so only transfers and taxis are available for you till the morning. From 22:00 to 07:00 a trip cost increases approx. on 30%, the same applies to holidays and weekends.
Transfer from Marco Polo Airport to Venice vs. Taxi ordered via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
Uber will not help you. You will not be able to use familiar Uber: Italian court fully forbade this service in the territory of the country. This is how legal taxi drivers facilitated this decision:
No need to deal with a new app. There is an alternative to Uber — AppTaxi, which unites the leading Italian taxi companies. A taxi trip price from the airport to Venice center (Mestre) does not significantly differ from the transfer price: 40 euro vs. 45 euro. Besides, the app’s design is substantially different from the familiar apps and it is in Italian.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Marco Polo Airport to Venice
Advantages of a private transfer
Strikes are not your concern. Italian taxi drivers are constantly working things out with local authorities. Nationwide strikes are a common thing and there is no way to get a taxi at this time. Unlike our service: you book a car in advance, and the driver will be waiting for you at the airport.
No language barrier. It is difficult to find a taxi driver in Italy who tolerably speaks English. So, do not forget to take with you a note with your hotel address, written in Italian. In addition, be morally prepared to explain yourself with gestures.
No surcharges. It is a custom in Italy to leave tips to a taxi driver (10% of a trip cost), and there is often a surcharge for luggage. Idle time in traffic jams is also included in the total sum. In short, you will never be sure about the sum you will finally pay.
Where a taxi has no access, we do. Venice is situated on the islands, and the streets are very narrow. Many houses are inaccessible for taxis. Kiwitaxi will select the most convenient route for you, which will include water transport, if necessary.
Transfer vs. Fly Bus Shuttle from Venice Marco Polo Airport
Advantages of a private transfer
Spend a night at your hotel not at the airport. Last express shuttle bus departs from the airport at 00:20. If you arrive at night, this variant is not for you.
Save your time. Shuttle bus waiting time will make around 30 minutes. You can travel by transfer from Venice Airport to your hotel for the same time or even 10 minutes less.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Much more expensive. Shuttle bus price and transfer price will be equal, only in case you order Kiwitaxi minivan for 7 people.
Transfer vs. Motor Boat from Marco Polo Airport to Venice
Advantages of a private transfer
4 times faster. The transfer will take you from the airport to the city center in approximately 20 minutes. If you choose water taxi, you will have to spend at least 10 minutes to get to the pier and 1 hour 15 minute more to get to St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco).
Do not pay extra for luggage. A passenger has the right to take only one carry-on luggage and 1 suitcase with him/her on a motorboat. For each extra item, you will be asked to pay 3 euro. By the way, even economy class transfer allows 3 suitcases to be included in the rate.
A disadvantage of a private transfer
Cheap only for a company of 3 people. Motorboat Alilaguna will take you from the airport to St. Mark's Square for 15 euro in one direction. Transfer — for 45 euro.
Transfers from Venice Airport vs. Buses
Advantages of a private transfer
No risk to get fined. Tourists warn that ticket offices sometimes sell empty tickets. If you find it out late, you will get a fine of 60 euro.
Even your suitcase will travel comfortably. City buses going from Venice Airport are not provided with space for large baggage. Suitcases at best will be left in the aisle, at worst - in your hands.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
Much more expensive. A single bus ticket costs 8 euro, whereas a transfer — 45 euro.
No free pass for children. In case of bus, you will save one ticket if you are traveling with a child (children under 6 y.o. - for free).
