Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport
The International Airport of Pisa is named after the famous Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei. This air hub receives mainly low-cost flights (Air Baltic, Easyjet, Germanwings, Norwegian Air, Ryanair, Vueling, Wizz Air), and many tourists arrive here to travel across Tuscany region in Italy. For example, it is possible to get to Viareggio, Luссa, Forte dei Marmi, Lido Di Camaiore, and Montecatini Terme in half an hour by car.
How to get from Pisa Airport to Pisa city center and the other way round
It is only 4km to Pisa center. It is possible to overcome this distance by:
- bus. Buses run from 5:20 to 20:25 with the interval of 15 minutes. By bus, you can get to Pisa train station and Ospedale S. Chiara stop, near which the famous Pisa tower is located. Tickets can be bought at the airport ticket office, at the information counter or at the ticket machine at the stop. It is also valid for all public transport within one hour after boarding;
- Pisa Centrale train. It runs to the Centrale train station from 6 am to the midnight every 5–8 minutes. You will get there in 5 minutes as the distance between the airport and the train station is about 1 km;
- taxi. One can take it on the spot or book via the app;
- transfer. It should be booked online in advance.
It is possible to get from the airport to Florence by bus or train from the Central train station.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (taken on the spot or ordered via the app)
Advantages of a private transfer
Available in 5 languages. In Pisa, you will not be able to use a taxi service with Uber: it is forbidden in Italy. There is “itTaxi” app, but it will only be suitable for those who understand Italian. Kiwitaxi website is on the contrary available in 5 languages, and its English-speaking support works 24/7.
No need to wait for a car in a crowded airport hall. Pisa Airport is rather small, but it receives around 5 million people annually. If you are not ready to wait in a line in a middle of a crowd in order to get a taxi, book a transfer from Pisa Airport to Pisa city center.
Safe and calm ride. The famous Italian temper reveals itself in the way taxi drivers drive a car: they speed up, cut each other, and honk. The Kiwitaxi driver will drive as carefully as a client needs.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
More expensive. Taxi from Pisa Airport to Pisa city center will cost around 12 euro. A transfer — 35 euro.
Transfer from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport vs. Bus and Train
Advantages of a private transfer
You will not spend a night in the street. Pisa Airport closes at night, and if you are late for the last bus, you will have to look for other ways to get to the city. The transfer, however, will pick you up at any time.
Travel without changes. The bus runs only to the city center, and the train — to the train station. Then you will have to change to public transport. The Kiwitaxi transfer will meet you at the airport and drive you directly to your hotel.
More comfortable. You do not need to wait for a transfer, you will travel without travel companions, there will be an air conditioner in a car, space for suitcases, and you will be able to book a child seat if your child is traveling with you. You can even order a minibus for up to 7 passengers if you are traveling in a group.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
Several times more expensive even if you are traveling in a group. A bus ticket costs 1,2 euro, and a train ticket price is 1,4 euro.
