How to get from Civitavecchia to Other Destinations
The coastal town of Civitavecchia is 1 hour 20 minutes away from the capital and has the Port of Civitavecchia which hosts many small cruise and ferry terminals but it has more to offer. The town has Roman and Etruscan archaeological sites and Fort Michelangelo from the 15th century for history lovers. Even though the beaches are pebbled, there is a water park good for a family fun. The city center is just outside of the port and there is a nice promenade.
Taxi from Civitavecchia
The Port of Civitavecchia only allows authorized taxi cab services into the territory which is its own transfer service. But there is a free shuttle provided by the dock and it runs between two ends with stops in between. With the free shuttle, you can go into town and get a taxi there. It costs €125 to get from Civitavecchia to Rome city center, and takes 1 hour and 15 minutes but cab services have extra fares in the capital for more luggage and people and the price might change according to traffic and route. A taxi trip to Fiumicino Airport takes 45 minutes and costs €95.
Public Transport from Civitavecchia
There is a rail connection between Civitavecchia and Termini. But it is an intercity train and has couple stops around the capital so it takes 70 minutes to arrive at Termini station. If you are in town for some sightseeing, you can get off at an earlier stop after 50 minutes such as St. Pietro, walk to the Vatican, and take the metro to other stations which will be faster than the train. The intercity one from Civitavecchia costs €5 and a day ticket to use in the capital costs €7. To Fiumicino Airport, it costs €11 and you have to change at Trastevere station. Keep in mind that intercity routes are not famous for their punctuality and they are usually generous with travel time.
