Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport

International Tel Aviv Airport named after Ben Gurion is the biggest in whole Israel. It is named in honor of the first prime minister of the country and considered one of the safest airports in the world. In Ben Gurion there are two passenger terminals: N1 serves domestic flights, and N3 is for international flights. Every year planes land and take off here more than 118 thousand times.

How to Get from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv City Center or the other way round

The airport is 14 km southeast of Tel Aviv. There are five options to get to the city:

  • buses. If you want to get to Tel Aviv center by bus, you will have to change: first you take a free shuttle bus N5 which stops at “Airport City”, then change to a bus N268 of Egged company, going to Tel Aviv central bus station. Shuttle buses operate between 05:00 to 22:00 with an interval of 15 minutes, buses — from 07:00 to 20:30 with an interval of 2–3 hours. The stop is on the second flow of Terminal 3 near the gates 21 and 23;
  • shared taxi (“Monit sherut” in Hebrew) also depart from the stop on the second floor of Terminal 3. They run on the same route as city buses, but can stop upon request;
  • train. The railway station is located on the lowest level (S) of Terminal 3 (follow the signs), and tickets can be bought in ticket offices and ticket machines in the arrivals area. Trains depart every 30 minutes between 05:35 and 23:35. They can take you to the station Tel Aviv-Savidor Center and central train station of Tel Aviv (Tel Aviv-HaHagana);
  • taxi, which can be taken on the spot or ordered via the app;
  • transfer, booked online in advance.

Besides, by this transport, you can travel directly from the airport to Jerusalem, Ein Bokek, Netanya, Haifa, Bat Yam and other cities of Israel. You only cannot travel by train: trains depart from the central train station in Tel Aviv.

Keep in mind, that public transport stops operating on Friday afternoon and does not run until Saturday evening, the same applies to holidays and weekends. Order a transfer to solve this problem.

Transfer vs. Taxi from Ben Gurion Airport, ordered via the app

Advantage of a private transfer

You will definitely leave the airport. It is sometimes absolutely impossible to order a taxi from Tel Aviv Airport to the city center via the app: either there are no available cars nearby, or a driver does not want to take the order. The transfer is booked in advance, and the car, by all means, comes at the appointed time.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

More expensive. A popular in Israel app, GetTaxi, states a price of 105 shekels (26,3 euro) for a trip from the airport to Tel Aviv center. Economy class transfer from the air hub to any location within the city limits costs 54 euro.

Transfer from Tel Aviv Airport vs. Taxi taken on the spot

Advantage of a private transfer

The price is fixed. A taxi driver will ask each passenger (more than two) to pay extra 4,9 shekels (1,3 euro). A 25% surcharge is applied for night rides on any day from 21:01 to 05:29. On Saturdays and holidays, a surcharge is valid for 24 hours. Besides, every Friday a higher tariff is used from 17:00 to 05:29.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

A bit more expensive. A daytime taxi trip on weekdays costs around 150 shekels (36 euro) for two. Transfer from the airport to the hotel in Tel Aviv for 4 persons will cost — 54 euro.

Transfer vs. Share taxi from Ben Gurion to Tel Aviv

Advantages of a private transfer

Drive to your hotel right away. Share taxis depart from the airport only when they are full. You will have to wait for 7-10 people, before setting off.

No worries about your luggage. “Monit sherut” is a simple van. Special space for suitcases is not provided here, so you will have to figure out first where to put your belongings, not where to seat. Transfer is more comfortable and has a spacious trunk.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

Minimum 19 euro more expensive, even if you are travelling in a group of four. A ticket for a share taxi costs 30-40 shekels (7,5–10 euro).

Transfer from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv vs. Buses and Trains

Advantages of a private transfer

Avoid long lines. There are always long queues at the ticket machines and offices. Instead of standing in a line surrounded by tired tourists, you can travel to Tel Aviv in a comfortable transfer.

You will not get stuck at the airport between Friday or Saturday. Buses and trains do not operate from 14:30 on Friday to 21:15 on Saturday — it is Shabbat in Israel. Transfer will take you from the airport at any time on any weekday.

No need to monitor Jewish holidays. Public transport of Israel does not operate on public holidays. There are at least 9 holidays and they fall on different days, which you will have to check before your trip.

Disadvantage of a transfer

Much more expensive. A train ticket costs 16 shekels (4 euro), and a bus ticket — 15 shekels (3,8 euro).
