Best Bakeries for Bread Lovers

I’m a total sucker for good bread—and Barcelona did not disappoint. My carb-loving heart found joy in every warm, flaky, sourdoughy bite at these spots:

Origo (locations in both Gràcia and Sant Antoni) — seriously, the crust on their loaves is unmatched.

Primor Bakery in Sant Antoni — a local favorite with buttery pastries that vanish fast.

Oz Bakery — their cinnamon rolls? Worth every calorie.

Whether you’re grabbing a morning coffee or looking for the perfect travel snack, these spots are chef’s kiss.

Speakeasy Cocktail Bars (Yes, They’re a Thing Here!)

There’s something about a good hidden bar that makes a city feel like yours. My three favorite finds this time:

Monk – tucked behind a discreet door in the Gothic Quarter, this cozy speakeasy has candlelit vibes and craft cocktails that wow.

Mariposa Negra – inventive drinks, plush interiors, and an easygoing crowd.

Oriental Bar – designed like a vintage train car. Think old-world glamour with a twist of gin and mystery.

If you’re looking for a break from rooftop bars and want something intimate and a little magical, don’t skip these.

A Unique Experience Worth Booking

One of my favorite moments in Barcelona wasn’t in a museum or beach—it was in a local kitchen. I booked a paella cooking class, and even though I’m far from a chef, it was one of the most fun, hands-on ways to connect with Spanish culture (and fellow travelers). Bonus: you get to eat your creation at the end with a glass of sangria in hand.

It felt like an edible memory I’ll be bringing home.

My Personal Travel Tips for Barcelona

These are a few things I wish someone had told me before my first visit—and now, I never go without them:

Get a Go City Pass if you’re short on time. It’s a smart way to check off major sights (like Park Güell, Casa Batlló, and even Sagrada Família) with one ticket and a lot more flexibility.

Book Sagrada Família in advance — I can’t stress this enough. It sells out, even in off-season. Book weeks ahead, especially if you want early entry or tower access.

Skip Barceloneta for Bogatell Beach. It’s cleaner, calmer, and full of locals. Bring snacks, a speaker, and spend an afternoon soaking it in.

Use public transport and walk — the metro is clean, quick, and cheap. Walking helps you stumble across neighborhoods you wouldn’t plan to visit (hello, Gràcia charm).

Watch your stuff in tourist-heavy zones. I always wear a crossbody fanny pack or phone necklace so I can explore stress-free.

Make dinner reservations — even on a Tuesday. Locals go out and tables fill up fast at good spots. No res = no tapas.

Barcelona is a city that rewards curiosity. From hidden bakeries to late-night speakeasies and rooftop moments with strangers-turned-friends, it’s a place you don’t just visit—you live it.
