Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Chania Airport to Chania Town
Chania International Airport is named after a famous Cretan fighter against Ottoman rule - Ioannis Daskalogiannis. The airport with a two-story terminal is not big. It’s smaller than the one in Heraklion. The largest passenger traffic takes place in the middle of the holiday season. Those tourists who have chosen the Western part of Crete island for a beach holiday, flock here. From here you can go to the resort town of Rethymno, to the neighboring traditional Greek village Prines, and to the well-known plateau of Omalos, as well as to Agia Marina and Georgioupolis.
How to get from Chania Airport to Chania town or the other way round
The airport of Chania is situated 15 kilometers away from the city center, and there are several ways to get there:
- Bus KTEL. The schedule depends on the season and day of the week; you can check it on the official website. The trip will take you to the city in just 30 minutes;
- Taxi. You can find a taxi from Chania Airport to Chania town at the special ranks; another option is to order one by phone or via the Internet;
- Transfer. You can book your transfer on the official website of the Kiwitaxi service.
A KTEL ticket cannot be booked online. You can buy one at special kiosks near stops. Conductors sell them as well but they aren’t always on the bus, while the inspectors control regularly.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Chania Airport booked by phone or via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
You are not going to take a “fake” taxi. In Greece, drivers are allowed to take fellow travelers, with the full fare to be paid by each passenger. Doesn’t it sound like a share taxi?
You can arrange your booking online in 10 minutes. In order to take a cab at the airport, you will have to wait in a line, as there are no private taxis in Crete.
It costs as much as a taxi. Both taxi and transfer will cost you 25 euros. However, in the latter case, we will organize your driver to meet you at the terminal exit and help you with your luggage.
Transfer from Chania Airport vs. Bus
Advantages of a private transfer
You're not going to be stuck at the airport. There aren’t many regular routes to Chania town even during the season. You risk being left without a seat, and the next bus may show up only in 5 (!) hours'.
You won't end up in another city. Bus signs and numbers are not always correct. With the Kiwitaxi transfer, you don’t need to watch the road. Our driver receives all the information about the route when booking and chooses the shortest route for you in advance.
Your money - your rules. When booking a transfer via Kiwitaxi, you not only select the pick-up time and location but the car class as well. Using public transportation system, you have to adjust yourself to the schedule, which, at Chania airport, depends on the weekday and season.
Instead of you waiting for transport, the transport is waiting for you. Kiwitaxi driver will wait for you for 1 hour at the airport for free if your flight is delayed. The bus driver in Greece, on the contrary, may be 20 minutes late or may even leave before the scheduled time, so it’s always safer to be at the stop in advance.
Disadvantages of a private transfer
It’s 10 times more expensive. Going by bus will cost you 2,5 euro, and the transfer price will make 25 euro.
