Why do people book transfers from Berlin airport «Tegel» (TXL)

Transfer is a transportation service which meets and brings you exactly where you asked: a Kiwitaxi driver meets you at the airport (as close to the Arrivals as possible), at the hotel reception or at the exactly given address, helps you with your luggage and brings you fast- track to your destination.

You can pre-order inexpensive taxi transfer to the city center or to the airport, comfortable car transfer for the family with children, Economy minivan for a tourist group or a Luxury transfer. The transfer cost from Berlin airport «Tegel» (TXL) is fixed at the time of pre-order and never rises : either when the driver is waiting for the passenger, when the stop is necessary, or because of traffic jams.

Customer feedback

Excellent and very kind driver. Showed us a bit around (a transfer and guided tour as well!) and even offered to help us in stopping next to a supermarket to buy some groceries on our way to the hotel.
A very entertaining Driver. Knew a Lot of Berlin history. Perfect for a day!!!
Everything was excellent and the driver polite and well-dressed. He also waited patiently for 45 min because the plane was delayed.
Very relaxing after a long plane ride. Would definitely use you again.
The driver was not there when we arrived, I tried calling the phone no I was given but none of them worked. After about 10 min the driver showed up and the rest of the trip went without any problems
Driver was on time with an easily readable sign, easy to spot. Car was clean, driver nice and brought me directly and quickly to the hotel.
Everything was good/perfect. On time, good sign with my name on it, good car in my case a BMW 730. I will recomment KIWITAXI everyone!!!
Everything was great!!! We were lucky with the driver that met us on time at the airport, helped with luggage and drove fast to the hotel. During the road we learned a lot of useful thing about the city life. Highly recommended service!
I liked that the cabdriver offered Wi-Fi to me. It is very useful to get in touch with your family after arriving to Moscow if you haven’t got a Russian SIM card.
Hello, the service was excellent. The driver very kind and helpful. The possibility to pay in cash was very good as I do not have a credit card. I would definitively recommend Kiwitaxi to all of my friends and would choose it in any country where it operates. Thanks again

Transfers vs. Other Ways to Get from Berlin Tegel Airport

International Tegel Airport named after Otto Lilienthal (Flughafen Berlin-Tegel Otto Lilienthal) is located 8 km away from the German capital and is named in honor of the outstanding German aviation engineer. In total there are five terminals at the airport (А, В, С, D, Е), the main of which is Terminal A. The annual passenger traffic is approximately 20 million people. From Tegel, it is possible to get to the other Berlin Airport - Schönefeld, and from Berlin - to Potsdam, Magdeburg, and the cruise port of Warnemünde.

How to get from Berlin Tegel Airport to Berlin city center or the other way round

Near Tegel Airport you will not find either train stations or subway. It is possible to get to the city by:

  • X9 and TXL shuttle buses. The first one goes to the Zoologischer Garten Station, and the latter — to Alexanderplatz train station. They run every 10–15 minutes, approximately from 4 am to the midnight;
  • buses. № 109 also goes to the Zoologischer Garten Station (from 06:51 to 00:15), № 128 goes to Osloer Straße subway station (from 04:39 to 00:29), which is approximately 5 km from the city center. The interval between buses is 10–15 minutes;
  • taxi from Berlin Tegel Airport to the city center, which you can take on the spot or order via the app;
  • transfer service, booked online in advance.

Bus stops are located opposite the Terminals A and B, and tickets can be bought in ticket offices and machines at the airport. Keep in mind, that after midnight you can get to the city only by taxi or transfer.

Transfer vs. Taxi from Berlin Tegel Airport to Berlin center (ordered on the spot or via the app)

Advantages of a private transfer

You know the price in advance, and it doesn’t change. In Berlin, it is possible to order a taxi via Uber, myTaxi and Taxi Berlin, but customers often complain that the price announced before the trip doesn’t match up with the final one.

Order in the language you know. Whereas using myTaxi and Taxi Berlin, you will have to remember everything you know in German.

No extra fees. In Berlin taxi, you can face surcharges for a trip alone and for credit card payments. In Kiwitaxi the price is for a car, not for a number of passengers.

Travel to Schönefeld with a personal driver for the same money or less. A trip from one Berlin Airport to the other by local taxi will cost 65–80 euro. By transfer, you will get there for 68 euro.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

Almost twice as expensive. Standard tariffs are valid for all Berlin taxis, and Uber also works according to the meter. The cost of the trip from the airport to the center will make 21–28 euro. A transfer trip to the hotel will cost minimum 50 euro.

Transfer from Berlin Tegel Airport to Berlin city center vs. Bus

Advantages of a private transfer

No need to build a complex route. By shuttle or bus you can only get to the city center, and then you will have to study a complex transport map to find transport running to your hotel.

Twice as fast. A trip to the city center will take around one hour including waiting time and numerous stops. By transfer you will get directly to your hotel, and in only half an hour.

Get to your hotel at night and at any time of the day. On the contrary, shuttles and buses do not run after midnight.

Disadvantage of a private transfer

More expensive, even if you travel in a group. One bus or shuttle ticket costs 2,8 euro. An economy transfer from Berlin Airport to your hotel will cost minimum 50 euro, and a minibus for 7 people - 62 euro.
