Transfer vs. Other Ways to get from Salzburg Mozart Airport
Salzburg Airport named after W.A. Mozart is the air gate to the majority of ski resorts of Austria, such as Saalbach and the popular area of Amadé. But tourists come here not only to ski or do snowboarding - near Salzburg, there are the picturesque lakes of St. Gilgen, Mondsee, Zell am See as well as beautiful small towns such as Kaprun or Hallstatt.
How to get from Salzburg Airport to Salzburg city center or the other way round
There are two terminals at the airport: № 1 — the main one, № 2 — the one assisting to receive flights in the winter time. You may overcome 4km to the city center with the help of:
— trolleybuses № 2, 10, and 27. The trolleybus № 2 runs from the airport to the central train station from 05:36 to 23:46 daily. The interval between buses is 10–20 minutes. The trolleybus № 10 goes to the city center and Salzburg Sam train station every 10 minutes from 05:22 to 01:11 (there are no trolleybuses on Sundays). The trolleybus № 27 runs to the Unipark Nonntal library from 05:04 to 23:40 with the interval of 15–20 minutes. The public transport stop is right at the exit from the terminal. Tickets can be bought at the ticket office at the terminal, at the ticket machine, and from a driver;
— ÖBB Postbus buses № 260 and 180. By bus, it is possible to get to other cities in Austria and Bavaria via Salzburg train station. Buses go from 5 am to 22 pm;
— taxi, which can be taken on the spot or booked via the app;
— transfer, booked in advance.
If you arriving at night, you will be able to get to the city only by taxi or transfer. From Salzburg train station, it is possible to get to different cities in Austria and Germany, for example, Vienna or Munich, by train.
Transfer from Salzburg Airport vs. Taxi booked via the app
Advantages of a private transfer
You can be sure that the car will arrive. Even if the app shows there are available cars for booking, the driver may simply reject your order. Kiwitaxi always sends the voucher to your email, which confirms the car arrival.
Choose a suitable car. If you arrive in Salzburg in a big company or with your ski equipment, a standard car which can be booked via the app, will not suit you. Kiwitaxi service allows you to book a car of any class and capacity.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
More expensive. Uber and myTaxi show the price of 10–21 euro for a trip to Salzburg center. The transfer price starts from 35 euro.
Transfer vs. Taxi from Salzburg Airport taken on the spot
Advantages of a private transfer
Without queues and waiting time. If you plan to leave the plane and get in a taxi immediately, it won’t work - you will have to spend some time in a line. And by transfer, you can set off to your hotel as soon as you’ve arrived.
Five euro cheaper. A trip by taxi from Salzburg Airport to the city center will cost you 40–50 euro. It is possible to book a Micro class car for 35 euro with Kiwitaxi.
Transfer from Salzburg Airport vs. Trolleybus and Bus
Advantages of a private transfer
Travel at night. Public transport does not go to the city after 1 am.
Twice as fast. You will have to wait for a bus or trolleybus for 10–20 minutes, and a trip to Salzburg will take another 20 minutes. With Kiwitaxi, you will get to the city for 15 minutes.
No need to plan a complex route. A transfer will take you directly to the door of your hotel. The bus and trolleybus go only to the city center, so you will have to study the public transport map in order to to get to your hotel.
Disadvantage of a private transfer
7,5 euro per person more expensive, if you travel by trolleybus in a group of four. A trolleybus ticket costs 2,5 euro. A transfer of economy class for four people costs 40 euro.
The total cost of a bus trip (for example, from the airport to Zell-am-See) costs 13,3 euro. You will have to learn on the spot how much you need to pay for a trip to the train station.
